In the framework of the week of Italian language in the world dedicated to the great poet Dante Alighieri, the Italian Embassy in Sudan and Comboni College of Science and Technology organized a reflection on the relationship
between humanity and knowledge inspired by a verse of the Divine Commedy (verse 119, canto XXVI, Dante's Inferno). The verse says: “You were not made to live like brutes, but to follow virtue and knowledge”. The
students of Italian language in the BA in English Language and Literature expressed their reflection through short videos that were screened on this occasion.
In a second moment, the Italian Institute for Ancient
History presented the illustrated book "The Kings of the Sacred Mountain" and the Italian Archaeological Mission in Sudan the comic book "Jebel Barkal. Divinities, queens and archaeologists under the mountain".
The publications, in Italian, English and Arabic, aim to promote knowledge of the work and findings of Italian archaeological missions especially among young Sudanese readers.
At the end of the day, Fr. Jorge
Naranjo, College Principal, was awarded by the President of the Republic of Italy the honor of Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy for his commitment to promote friendly relations and co-operation between Italy
and Sudan, in particular in the field of Italian language.
