18 August 2026 - Launch of the Sudanese Sign Language Android App Design...
On August 17, 2026, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Sudanese National Union of the Deaf and Comboni College of Science and Technology to design, launch, and develop an Android application that translates Sudanese Sign Language into readable written Arabic text.
The project aims to develop a minimum value product using artificial intelligence, which will form the basis of an application that combines handwritten sign language with written text. This will greatly facilitate and enable people with hearing impairments to learn to read and write as a second language, leveraging their excellent native sign language skills. It will also allow members of the community to learn how to communicate with deaf people using sign language. Furthermore, the project contributes to achieving one of the Union's community goals: integrating deaf people into society by promoting sign language and alternative communication methods to spoken language]
The project is funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and headed by AISPO.
